Running in Virginia

Way back in high school (Boca Raton Community High) I used to run track. I was a sprinter and never ran anything longer than 400m. It was a great way to kill time after soccer season and stay in shape. It was also a great stress reliever. It was mindless. Once your running form is down, you just run around a track until your legs and lungs shout NO MORE.

After taking a vacation with my family down to the beach I realized I might not be a young man anymore. I'm not looking to return to athletic competition, but 30 minutes a day of exercise hardly seems extreme. My wife has a gym membership and I'll probably end up doing that once the winter comes along, but for now I wanted to enjoy the beautiful springtime available throughout the area.

There is one huge difference between Virginia and Florida in this respect and that is hills. In Florida, I would have to look for a bridge to do any climbing work. My runs now are filled with painful climbs and quick descents. I'm having to learn something I never thought about before. and it hurts.
